I found it difficult to recall any particular spells or incantations that I "used" in my childhood. There were superstitions and warnings that all kids held (hold your breath when passing a cemetary, lift your feet when driving over railroad tracks, sticks and stones, don't step on a crack or you'll break your mother's back...), but as far as actual spells or sayings, prayer is the nearest thing I could conjur to create any sort of "real" magic. I prayed to St. Francis for lost things, I said The Hail Mary to be forgiven, I said The Our Father to let Him know I was scared...Whatever comfort and consolation my prayers provided got me through some rought times in my childhood and firmly rooted in me the belief that all prayers are answered in some way shape or form.
In my adult life, I have found to believe firmly in what the Hindis call karma, or the notion of "what goes around, comes around." The saying itself is not exactly a hex, however, the wrong-doer, the perpatrator, the person of ill will may think twice before acting less-than neighborly towards another if they heed the sayer's warning, especially if they lay any stake in the claim. The Buddhist idea of a universe in balance lends some support to this concept as well...What goes around, comes around. And for the nay-sayers, if two major world religions can't convince you of the truth in this concept, or the "magic" in this spell, Justin Timberlake wrote a song about it...And look where Britney Spears is today (Spooky-huh?)
